Geisinger is one of the country’s largest rural healthcare systems. The Hospital for Advanced Medicine (HfAM) at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania is a new eight-story facility. It houses a new 32,000 sq. ft. surgical suite equipped with a sophisticated boom and communications system; Geisinger’s Heart and Vascular Institute; and two, single-occupancy inpatient nursing units. The facility provides 30 acuity-adaptable cardiovascular care beds and 30 cardiac care telemetry beds with state-of-the-art wireless monitoring and communication systems.

The building’s exterior is highlighted by glass curtainwall to allow natural light and provide nature views from patient rooms, offices and corridors. The hospital is certified LEED Silver as part of Geisinger’s continuing commitment to constructing environmentally friendly facilities.

This project presented the logistical challenge of completing $100 million of construction in the middle of an active medical center. Additional concerns included site traffic disruptions and ensuring sufficient parking for patients, visitors, and hospital staff. To address the parking issue, Torcon completed a new five-level, 600-space parking garage under a fast-track DB contract. To ensure pedestrian safety, the garage construction included an enclosed pedestrian walkway.
