Boehringer Ingelheim Breaks Ground on Two New Research Facilities
Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals Inc. (BIPI) has selected Torcon to oversee the
construction of two state-of-the-art facilities that will enhance its research,
development and manufacturing capabilities at the company’s U.S. headquarters in
Ridgefield, CT.
On November 14, 2011, BIPI broke ground on a 72,000 square-foot R&D pilot plant facility that will produce active pharmaceutical ingredients used in early development activities. Products that are approved in the new facility will go on to Boehringer’s fullscale R&D facilities in either the U.S. or Europe. The R&D building will be completed in 2014.
Several months earlier, BIPI also began construction on a $42.5 million drug safety
assessment building at the Fairfield County site. This 63,000 square-foot facility is
designated for non-clinical safety studies, and incorporates connections to an existing
building on several levels. Construction will be completed in 2013.
In addition to managing construction, Torcon also provided comprehensive
preconstruction services to BIPI for both projects.
