Monmouth University Opens New Multipurpose Activity Center

West Long Branch, NJ—Monmouth University recently dedicated its state-of-the art Multipurpose Activity Center, in time for the start of the 2009-2010 academic year. President Paul Gafffney II presided over the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the $57 million facility, which houses Monmouth's 19 Division I athletic programs, the Leon Hess Champions' Hall, fitness center and the University Bookstore.

Located at the center of the University's campus, the 153,200 square foot facility features a 4,100 seat arena for basketball and concerts; a 200-meter; six-lane indoor track; locker rooms; educational and conference space; ground-level bookstore; and fitness center. Monmouth officials say the new MAC will heighten the visibility of both the Division I college's athletic program and its visibility within the Monmouth County community at large.

"It's going to be a great recruiting tool for us, for sure," said University President Gaffney. "It's going to put us on the map and make us a better school. Most good schools today have to have these kinds of facilities, just because students are into fitness and they want quality facilities."

Torcon was Construction Manager for the facility, which was designed by Ewing Cole.
