FAA Air Traffic Control Tower
Newark, New Jersey
The Federal Aviation Administration’s newest air traffic
control tower is at Newark Liberty International Airport—and
Torcon had a part in its construction
The 335-foot tower is taller than the Statue of Liberty and was constructed at an average rate of one floor per week. The new tower is located centrally among the airports three passenger terminals replaces the 30-year old air traffic control tower, which was north of Terminal C.
Constructed with load-bearing precast concrete and structural steel, the tower houses a four-level computer support space below the controller’s center and an administration building at its base.
The FAA tower also was the recipient of the Grand Award of the American Concrete Institute, New Jersey Chapter.
