The Westfield Corporation
Garden State Plaza Mall
Paramus, New Jersey

Torcon was selected by The Westfield Group, the largest retail property group in the world, to provide construction management services for an expansion to Garden State Plaza, an enclosed regional shopping center in Paramus, New Jersey. The project included a two-level, 163,000 sq. ft. mall expansion for general leasing space. Currently the 15th largest mall in the United States with just under 2 million square feet, the mall features five anchor stores and hundreds of specialty and name brand shops.

The new addition provides a new mall entrance and an expanded food court area on the ground level. The second level of the addition has 155,500 sq. ft. of new space with a 95,000 sq. ft. movie theatre complex and 61,500 sq. ft. of tenant space and common mall area. The addition has covered parking below. Torcon also completed extensive site reconfiguration as part of the project, including parking areas, relocation of utilities and a new emergency response/command center.

During the construction a below grade loading dock remained active and accessible for use by food court tenants and Macy’s. The loading dock entry road is in the central portion of the active construction area.  The project took place in carefully timed phases as the mall remained active so there was little disruption during peak shopping times from September through December giving shoppers better parking and mall access.
