Montclair State University -
Richardson Hall Science Lab Annex
Upper Montclair, New Jersey
Torcon was the construction manager for Montclair State University’s
52,000 square foot Richardson Hall laboratory annex. The new three-story
annex has connecting corridors to the existing university building.
Construction of the laboratory building took place in two phases.
Phase One required the removal and relocation of the existing underground utilities to serve the new and existing buildings, construction of an underground tunnel to provide utility services for the new and existing facility.
Phase Two saw the construction of the Biology/Biochemistry Annex Building adjacent to Richardson Hall. Work included a structural steel frame on a concrete foundation, a mechanical penthouse and greenhouse on the roof and a partial basement.
The Annex took 18 months to complete and houses the Department of Biology and Molecular Biology, Health Careers Program and the Biochemistry Program. The facility contains modern teaching and research laboratories, along with faculty and staff offices.
