Thomas Jefferson University Hospital
Outpatient Center at the Philadelphia Navy Yard
Torcon provided construction services to TJU for two new facilities at the Philadelphia Navy Yard: a multispecialty
physician practice, and an ambulatory surgery center. The two facilities are located on separate
floors within a LEED Gold-certified multi-tenant office building.
Jefferson Physicians
Situated on the first floor of a four-story building, this multi-specialty practice features physician offices,
examination rooms and procedure suites. Specialties include ear, nose and throat (otolaryngology),
audiology, urology, pain management and medical oncology. There are sixteen examination rooms for
primary care physicians and specialists.
The newly constructed, 10,000 square foot space is LEED Certified, featuring expansive areas of glass to
deliver natural light in the waiting areas, offices and corridors. The patient-friendly design includes a
spacious waiting area and with a designated "quiet section" decorated in warm woods. The office is outfitted
with the latest technology and equipment for visits and procedures, including an electronic medical records
system; a state-of-the-art booth for hearing tests; and an optional self check-in kiosk. The project was
designed by the Philadelphia office of Environetrics.
Jefferson Surgical Center
The third-floor ambulatory surgery center provides orthopedic, pain management and general surgery
services, including specialists from the Rothman Institute at Jefferson. The 15,000 square foot space
features four operating rooms and one procedure room, fully equipped with the latest instrumentation and
technology. The center also offers a reception and family waiting area, seven pre-operative bays, eight
recovery room bays with added privacy, and a discharge area.
The Surgical Center was developed by area physicians, Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals and
Nueterra Healthcare. The project was designed by Pescatore + Associates of Havertown, Pennsylvania.
