Office/Training Center
Lansdale, Pennsylvania
Torcon provided construction management services to Merck &
Co., Inc. for the conversion of a large warehouse facility into
a corporate office and training center in Lansdale, Pennsylvania.
Torcon’s extended construction management services included
feasibility analysis, programming, planning, and contract administration.
The project was completed in distinct phases to meet the occupancy
needs of Merck’s divisions and user groups. The initial
phase of work created a national order management center for
Merck’s
U. S. prescription medicines and was completed in less than four
months on a fast-track schedule. A 28,000 square-foot area
was created in a former high-bay warehouse area with high-quality
finishes and 100 percent backup power for both phones and data
systems.
The second phase of construction was, itself, completed in two
phases. Initially, Torcon built an 85,000 square-foot office center
to serve as headquarters for Merck’s U.S. Human Health division.
The project included new mechanical and electrical infrastructure
as well as the introduction of windows in the former warehouse
exterior. The new offices allowed for the relocation of 350 people
and included a new cafeteria, shipping and receiving areas and
a teledata network.
An additional 92,000 square feet of space was fit-out by Torcon
to create a full-featured corporate training center. In addition
to networked classrooms and dining areas, the training center
has a variety of conference facilities with state-of-the-art A/V
systems. A four-season garden plaza was also created to introduce
outside light into the training center.
