Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
Bioprocess Development Facility
Pearl River, New York

Building 250 at Wyeth’s Pearl River, New York site is a three-story, 150,000 square foot cGMP compliant Bioprocess Development Facility. Products made in the facility comply with FDA and EU cGMP guidelines for the manufacture of pre-clinical and clinical materials.

Building 250 includes discovery research and process development labs, a fermentation/ recovery pilot plant, suites for cGMP production of antibody drug conjugates and selected Calicheamicin derivative products.  Production facilities are fully validated.

Lab functions for Building 250 include microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, organic chemistry and analytical chemistry. The new facility provides expanded capacity and new instrumentation/equipment to evaluate state-of-the-art bioprocess technologies such as miniaturized and automated strain screening and immobilized cell or enzyme technologies. Wyeth also benefits from increased operating flexibility, and the ability to meet desired environmental controls required for the production of parenteral drugs. Similarly, the expanded bioprocess development pilot plant allows Wyeth to meet its anticipated need for three to four concurrent programs. This expanded facility has the ability to accommodate different types of primary recovery and purification equipment.

In addition to the B250 facility itself, Torcon was CM for a simultaneous $36 million Central Utilities Plant upgrade program. The two-floor; 22,500 square foot CUP was essentially four projects in one: a chiller building, a site substation, utilities infrastructure and the replacement and relocation of a 1300-ton cooling tower to an adjacent facility. The chiller building was built to house four 2000-ton chillers with the ability to expand to eight; however, two chillers were installed at the time of construction. The site substation has a 34/69kv dual tap transformer and 15kv switchgear; the dual transformer serves the existing 34kv aerial bus now, and a 69kv GIS for future use. The site utilities infrastructure with 15kv electrical ductbanks, teledata duct banks, chilled water supply and return, steam and condensate, domestic city water, fire water and well water.

KlingStubbins was the architect/engineer for both projects. Process Facilities, Inc. was the process consultant.
