Science & Technology

Brookhaven National Laboratory-National Synchrotron Light Source II

Torcon is general contractor for the conventional facilities portion of the NSLS-II, a research facility providing advanced capabilities. NSLS-II will be a new state-of-the-art, medium-energy electron storage ring (3 billion electron-volts) designed to deliver world-leading intensity and brightness, and will produce x-rays more than 10,000 times brighter than the current NSLS. Torcon's work scope includes the 278,000 sq. ft. Ring Building, which will house the accelerator and associated beamlines; the Injection Building, used for the compact booster and linac; an RF Building; and five two-story Service Buildings containing mechanical and electrical equipment.

U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases-Replacement Facility (USAMRIID)

The U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) is the nation's premier biodefense laboratory. The new replacement facility encompasses 865,000 sq. ft. of space and will be the world's largest and most complex high-containment medical research facility. It is being designed and constructed as the keystone for the new National Interagency Biodefense Campus (NIBC) at Fort Detrick, Maryland. The facility will provide extensive research lab space at varying levels of containment; lab support facilities and specialty labs; and space for headquarters, administrative and research offices, staff training and conferences.

Rutgers University-Center for Integrative Proteomics Research

New 102,000 sq. ft. academic research building on the University's Piscataway campus. Provides NMR, X-ray crystallography, mass spectrometry, and computational biology resources. The three-story facility will house more than one dozen research groups working both experimentally and computationally in the areas of proteomics, structural biology, and computational biology. Proteomics is a branch of genetics that studies proteins encoded by a genome.

API PNS Program

Torcon is CM for a consolidation program for Pfizer that will transfer manufacturing of four active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) products from other client sites to Barceloneta. Work includes utility upgrades, equipment relocation and installation, and building renovation.

Amgen-AML-23 Sensipar Drug Product Manufacturing Facility

The existing AML-23 building is being renovated to provide a new oral solid dosage (OSD) manufacturing facility. This will be the first and only OSD facility in Amgen's global network. The manufacturing suite will be constructed using a modular cleanroom system with walkable ceilings. The project includes the installation of a granulation train skid, tablet compression and coating machines, weighing and dispensing equipment, and cleaning equipment. Mechanical and electrical upgrades include new HVAC and electrical distribution equipment, as well as a USP water generation and distribution skid. The fit-out will also include space for a future packaging line.

Warner Chilcott-Hormones Expansion

This project consists of the expansion and renovation of an existing manufacturing facility, converting the space into solid dosage hormones manufacturing. The new manufacturing space is equipped with product weighing, blending, drying, and compression capabilities. Torcon's work scope also includes the installation of mechanical, electrical, and process support equipment including AHU’s, dust collectors, DI water skid, and solvent storage/transfer system.
