Building Green
To meet today's advanced environmental standards, Torcon proudly complies by offering sustainable design services.
You can count on Torcon as an industry leader in green design. By
deploying the latest environmental technologies and complying with
the most stringent standards, we continue to provide outstanding
sustainable design and are recognized leader in green building practices.
There has been a substantial increase in building projects that
are establishing sustainable design and construction as a primary
focus. The results of these practices are buildings that provide
an improved working environment and decreased energy consumption,
resulting directly and indirectly in savings for the building owner. Torcon has
the knowledge and experience to provide valuable input into the sustainable
design and construction process.
LEED and GGHC
Torcon has participated in a wide variety of sustainable development
projects that have followed the United States Green Building Council’s
(USGBC’s) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program
and complementary Green Guide for Health Care (GGHC) program. The
LEED program’s primary objective is to provide guidelines for sustainable
building projects, and publicly recognize those projects which complete a sustainable
building project.
In order for a project to be eligible for LEED status, several mandatory
prerequisites must be achieved. Once these initial requirements
have been satisfied, credits can be earned from six categories: Sustainable
Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy & Atmosphere, Materials & Resources,
Indoor Environmental Quality, and Innovation in Design. Certification
is based on the number of credits earned and can be achieved in four
levels: Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum. In addition to the
LEED rating system for new construction, there are several other
classifications including commercial interiors, schools, and retail
spaces to accommodate the needs of any sustainable building project.
At Torcon, we can work with you to select the appropriate credits
and certification level to pursue.
