Torcon Breaks Ground on Camden Joint Health Sciences Center

A ceremonial ground breaking for the new $70 million Joint Health Sciences Center, a state of the art biomedical teaching and research facility located at MLK Boulevard and Broadway in Camden was held on Thursday, October 19, 2017.  Torcon is the general contractor for the new building, which was designed by HOK and Joseph F. McKernan Jr. Architects and Associates.

The Center, to be shared by Rutgers University-Camden, Rowan University, and Camden County College will accommodate students and faculty from Rutgers-Camden, the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, the Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine, and Camden County College.

The four-story, 95,000 sq. ft. facility will be made up of two connected buildings and will house laboratories and classroom space, including facilities for allied health programs, biomedical research, a state-of-the-art medical stimulation suite and a center for successful aging.

The new Center will enhance Camden’s “Meds and Eds” focus, and help develop a robust health sector research presence in the city and in South Jersey.
